Stress Checklist

Coping with stress is a complex issue, demanding a variety of approaches because of the wide range of issues involved. However, there are some key facts to remember:

  • Recognise that a problem exists – it’s the first step towards managing it.
  • Try and take a step back from your life and think about the issues that you face and some of the symptoms of stress that you recognise in your situation.

Think about what causes your stress.

  • Realise that it can be caused by you not being able to cope with a particular issue or event.
  • Be open to develop new strategies and ways of looking at issues.
  • Learn to take time out/walk away from that situation that causes stress.
  • Recognise that help is available from friends, family and professional organisations.
  • Sharing your issues is always a good start.
  • Begin to develop a healthier lifestyle with some specific stress management techniques that work for you.
  • Remember that by making a change and doing something different you are taking action.
