How to look after your feet if you are a diabetic
Here are 10 easy steps for looking after your feet:
- Check your feet at least once a day for cuts, stones or pressure areas, preferably in the afternoon/evening. Don’t put your feet too close to the heater or walk barefoot.
- Check your shoes for seams or holes. It is important to replace your shoes before they are completely worn to pieces and at least one pair of properly fitted shoes is ideal.
- Watch your sugar (glucose) and monitor it appropriately with your exercise and meals.
- Keep your nails short and hard skin (calluses) under control.
- Moisturize your feet after you shower.
- Buy a proper pair of diabetic or intelligent socks with small or no seams.
- Exercise for 30 minutes or more each day
